LbE Hawaii x Waimea Valley Community Service Event

1) Date, Location, Report Time

Date: Saturday, July 18, 2020

Report Location: Meet at Waimea Valley Visitors Center, 59-864 Kamehameha Hwy.Haleiwa HI 96712

Report Time: No later than 9AM. If you come late, the group might leave without you! Reception in the valley is no guarantee. 

Location Details: When you arrive at the Valley entrance road, go mauka (towards the mountains) and park in any of the regular parking lots. Then continue walking from there to the Visitors center. (See Map below) If you see a sign that says employees only beyond this point you have gone too far, go back to the first building you saw.

2) Carpool Schedule

Thanh, Kiriko, Linda: Please MEET in front of Lucky Strike Ala Moana; for pickup by Yuko at 8AM

Ethan: Picked up by Kevin at 7:45 AM from your residence (address on file)

All other drivers: please be aware of the report time and coordinate your travel time accordingly. 

3) What to Expect

This is a community service event at Waimea Valley. LbE has gathered a team of volunteers called “Team LBE” to malama Waimea Valley. The projects we will participate in will help Waimea Valley maintain their gardens and cultural sites. We will be ensuring that this wonderful valley will exist and thrive for future generations. 

 

Work may include but not be limited to: 

  • Weeding

  • Garden Cleanup

  • Maintenance of cultural sites and invasive species control

4) SCHEDULE

09:00 Check In, fill out waiver forms, bathroom break, get ready to volunteer

 

09:15 Overview & Oli Protocol

 

09:30 Get gloves and begin volunteer project

 

11:30 Finish volunteer project

 

11:45 Begin lunch break / volunteer free time

 

12:30 End of lunch break / cultural activity

5) PLEASE BRING
  1. Mask (REQUIRED)

  2. Plastic-free water bottle with water inside

  3. Sunscreen

  4. Insect repellant

  5. Hat

  6. Sunglasses

  7. Raincoat and something to protect electronics

  8. Change of clothes

  9. Towel

  10. Swimwear (optional)

  11. Gloves (if you have odd-sized hands...they’ll otherwise provide)

6) ATTIRE

Long pants you don't mind getting dirty, long-sleeved shirts, work shoes you don’t mind getting dirty (Project Paradise T-Shirt not required or recommended to wear for this event as it WILL get dirty)

7) IMPORTANT SAFETY GUIDELINES
  1. Terrain: We will set up projects in areas that are near the entrance and easy to get to, but we will be outdoors, so you should be ready for uneven terrain.

  2. Due to the dangers presented by the global Covid-19 pandemic, we ask that anyone who is feeling unwell or showing any symptoms of the virus, please stay home. Also, if you find out that you have the virus within 14 days of your visit, please take the time to inform us. Masks are REQUIRED to be warn during the entire event.
