Report Location: Hyatt Place Waikiki Beach Lobby (!BE CAREFUL OF THE REPORT LOCATION AND PARKING!)

Report Time: 7:45 AM 

*Facilitators and Bilingual Supports - please arrive at 7:30 AM

Parking: Kapiolani Park near Bandstand or Waikiki Shell (FREE)...Beware of walking time. If late, please park closer like zoo and be responsible for paying for parking. PARKING MAY BE VERY LIMITED DUE TO UPCOMING HONOLULU FESTIVAL. PLEASE BE CAREFUL, CARPOOL, OR DRIVE VERY EARLY!!!

2) Staffing Roles

Facilitator - Matthew Lee - In charge of attendance, escorting the entire group, and ensuring Islanders understand the activities of the program. Will speak to students to summarize learning.

Bilingual Supporter - Reina Nakazato - Assists the Facilitator and JPN students in translating English-Japanese

Islanders - English Speaking Leaders, assigned to a group of around 10 Japanese high school students, representing the people and aloha of Hawaii, befriends the students to support them in English-practice and international relations. Solely responsible for the safety and well-being of the students and contacts the Facilitator (Matthew Lee) at 808-277-2065 if there are any issues.

English Level: Unknown, but always be prepared for different levels of English within your group and do give equal attention to all students. Slow down and simplify your English.

Program Theme: This is a site-based Project Paradise program. Students will learn about Hawaii, culture, history, lifestyle and self-identity. While it may seem like a "FUN" field trip, we must take the SCHEDULE and instructions very seriously. Also, there is a mandatory reflection session at the end of the program for all groups to complete. We will make this program goal-oriented. Each group must complete a reflection sheet at the end of the program, therefore all students must be focused during the program. This is not just FREE TIME. Be careful!!!

4) GROUP A PROGRAM SCHEDULE
4a) VERY IMPORTANT SCHEDULE INFORMATION

Be aware of your report times. There will be chartered bus between Hyatt Pl. Waikiki Beach to Bishop Museum to UH Manoa....walk to JCCH....then JCCH to Hyatt Pl. Waikiki Beach. So you must be very conscious about time. Always check your schedule and watch your timing!

REPORT TIMES @ JAPANESE CULTURAL CENTER OF HAWAII

Each group will have their own report times at JCCH. Please walk your groups down to JCCH according to your assigned report time!!! The walking time from UH to JCCH can vary between 15~30 minutes! Be careful. Check in with Matt upon arrival.

Upon finishing at JCCH, begin working on REFLECTION SHEETS. There shall be a reflection sheet provided in each group sign packet. Don't lose it! 

5) Important Preparation Information
  1. REPORT: REPORT LOCATION IS NOT UH...BUT IN WAIKIKI (HYATT PLACE WAIKIKI BEACH). Be careful, there are more than one HYATT's. Study the map.

  2. DOWNLOAD "ACTIONBOUND" APP in order to operate Exploration UH Manoa and Exploration JCCH

  3. ATTIRE: Casual shirt + shorts or long pants and comfortable shoes. Please bring a jacket as it does get COLD in Bishop Museum and JCCH.

  4. PHONE RULE: ABSOLUTELY NO PERSONAL USE OF PHONES DURING EVENT.

  5. PLEASE BRING EXTERNAL BATTERY CHARGER IF YOU HAVE: You will need to CONSERVE YOUR BATTERY as the majority of the day, students will be using your phone.

  6. LANGUAGE: Please only speak ENGLISH with your students during this program.

  7. EXCHANGING OF CONTACT INFORMATION: Absolutely no exchange of phone numbers, email, social media with your students nor the teachers of the school! Violating such rule can result in termination from LbE Hawaii.

  8. DURING EXPLORATION UH MANOA: Please play the game with your own group only. Do not join any other groups. It is not an effective way to play and learn.

6) How to play EXPLORATION Game (Scavenger Hunt using Islanders' smartphones)
You will need to operate this game for Exploration UH Manoa and Exploration JCCH on YOUR smartphone devices. Please be prepared by downloading ACTIONBOUND on your phones in advance and keep your phones charged to 100%!
