Report Location: Campus Center Executive Dining Room (Mauka [mountain] side, INSIDE Campus Center Food Court Dining Room)

Report Time: 8:00 AM (Kristi, our Floater Staff, will be checking you in with your arrival time. Do NOT be late!)

*Facilitator, Supporter, Floater - please arrive a little before 8AM.

PARKING NOTICE!!! THE MAIN UH PARKING STRUCTURE MOST LIKELY WILL NOT BE OPEN TO NON-PASS HOLDERS DUE TO CONSTRUCTION AND LIMITED STALLS. YOU WILL NEED TO FIND STREET PARKING OR PARK IN HAWAIIAN STUDIES PARKING STRUCTURE. WALKING TIME FROM HAWAIIAN STUDIES CAN TAKE 15-20 MINUTES TO CAMPUS CENTER. 

LbE Hawaii can now reimburse parkers $5.00 cash with redemption of 600 Paradise Points. Inquire with Kristi, onsite at check-in, if you'd like to redeem 600 Paradise Points for $5.00 cash for parking.

*It is critical that you report on time to the report location. Please plan transportation, parking, and time it takes to arrive ahead of time. 2) Staffing Roles

Facilitator in Training - Tyler Nakasone - In charge of the overall program operation, time management and scheduling, lead educator, lead escort / communicates with Bilingual Supporter

 

Supporter - Kevin Ching - Supports the Facilitator and Bilingual Supporter

Floater - Kristi Meechan - Supports with check-in, setup, distribution and collection of materials, operates and supports Facilitator with Kahoot! game, evaluates Islanders' Hale Aloha presentations and overall performance during program, supports as "back-up Islander"

Bilingual Supporter - Yuko Maruo - Point of Contact to the school and JTB tour escort, assist Kevin in translating important info into Japanese, assist Islanders with communication with students

Islanders - English Speaking Leaders, assigned to a group of 4~6 Japanese high school students, representing the people and aloha of Hawaii, befriends the students to support them in English-practice and international relations

Group: Hokuchiku High School

Ages: High School (Age Unknown)

Gender: 8 boys, 30 girls 

English Level: Unknown, but always be prepared for different levels of English within your group and do give equal attention to all students. Slow down and simplify your English.

Participants per Group: Group A, D, E, F, G = 6 students, Group B, C = 4 students 

Number of Groups/Islanders: 7

Number of Students: 38

Program Theme: This is a standard program, where we introduce to the students the cultural diversity of Hawaii and the benefits of living in a multicultural society, further promoting the importance of being globally aware and communicating with other people. We will spend quite a bit of time comparing and contrasting the differences between Hawaii and Japan so that students can grasp a better glimpse of their identity.

5) Important Preparation Information
  1. ATTIRE: Wear your Project Paradise T-Shirt if you have one (or anything on top) + shorts or long pants and comfortable shoes. Please bring a jacket - we will be indoors throughout the entire program and the room CAN get cold. (please no unusual piercings and please do attempt to cover up visible tattoos)

  2. PHONE RULE: ABSOLUTELY NO PERSONAL USE OF PHONES DURING EVENT. 

  3. *NEW TABLET DEVICES*For the first program ever, LbE Hawaii will be issuing out an Amazon Fire 10 Tablet to each Islander for program use only. You will be responsible for signing the device in and out and ensuring your students take good care of the device. Islanders will no longer need to lend their personal phones to their students.

  4. LANGUAGE: Please only speak ENGLISH with your students during this program.

  5. EXCHANGING OF CONTACT INFORMATION: Absolutely no exchange of phone numbers, email, social media with your students nor the teachers of the school! Violating such rule can result in termination from LbE Hawaii.

  6. HALE ALOHA: You will be required to provide multiple artifacts (not just computer presentation) that best represents your background. Please see guidelines below and sample video for inspiration:
