Report Time: 7:30 AM (DRIVERS: PARKING WILL BE LIMITED AS THE MAIN PARKING STRUCTURE COULD BECOME FULL. PLEASE STUDY THE ALTERNATE PARKING OPTIONS PRIOR TO DRIVING TO THE UNIVERSITY OR FIND ALTERNATE MODES OF TRANSPORTATION). http://manoa.hawaii.edu/commuter/visitor.php

*It is critical that you report on time to the report location. Please plan transportation, parking, and time it takes to arrive ahead of time. LbE Hawaii has implemented a tardy/absence enforcement policy for the sake of a smooth running high quality program. Text or call Virgil at 808-218-4278 if running late. 

*NEW: All Islanders are now compensated from the REPORT time of the program. Plus, Islanders who arrive on time will receive a $5.00 CASH BONUS, just for coming on time. Please collect this bonus open checking in at the front of the ballroom.

Facilitator - TBA - In charge of the overall program operation, time management and scheduling, lead educator, lead escort / communicates with Bilingual Supporter

Bilingual Support- Yuko Maruo

Islanders - English Speaking Leaders, assigned to a group of 6~8 Japanese high school students, representing the people and aloha of Hawaii, befriends the students to support them in English-practice and international relations

Group: Ikuei HS

Ages: High School (Age Unknown)

Gender: Co-Ed 

English Level: Unknown, but always be prepared for different levels of English within your group and do give equal attention to all students. Slow down and simplify your English.

Participants per Group: 8 students per group

Number of Groups/Islanders: 8

Number of Students: 65

Program Theme: This is a standard program, where we introduce to the students the cultural diversity of Hawaii and the benefits of living in a multicultural society, further promoting the importance of being globally aware and communicating with other people. Students will also learn about Hawaii-Japan relations and gain self-identity!

5) Important Preparation Information
  1. REPORT: REPORT LOCATION IS CAMPUS CENTER BALLROOM. Please call Kevin Ching if you're lost: 808-209-5423 or text the group text.

  2. ATTIRE: Casual shirt + shorts or long pants and comfortable shoes. 

  3. PHONE RULE: ABSOLUTELY NO PERSONAL USE OF PHONES DURING EVENT.

  4. PLEASE BRING EXTERNAL BATTERY CHARGER IF YOU HAVE: You will need to CONSERVE YOUR BATTERY as you will need to use your mobile devices hotspot to tether to our Amazon Fire Tablets.

  5. LANGUAGE: Please only speak ENGLISH with your students during this program.

  6. EXCHANGING OF CONTACT INFORMATION: Absolutely no exchange of phone numbers, email, social media with your students nor the teachers of the school! Violating such rule can result in termination from LbE Hawaii.

  7. DURING EXPLORATION UH MANOA: Please play the game with your own group only. Do not join any other groups. It is not an effective way to play and learn.

  9. PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS: Please create a 10 minute Hale Aloha presentation (guidelines below), review the Exploration UH Manoa game (video below), be prepared to have a discussion with your students about ALOHA SPIRIT (please google the meaning and examples of ALOHA prior to the program), also be prepared to listen to your students do a presentation. Some Islanders will need to display the students' presentations on their electronic devices. (details coming soon from Virgil)
